Birds can be extremely sensitive to essential oils. Do not diffuse with a diffuser that pulls the essential oils straight from the bottle, please use a water diffuser. The answer is “yes” and birds can certainly benefit from Essential Oils just like we can or any of our other pets can. Here are some excellent resources on essential oils with birds:
http://www.animaleo.info/birds.html and http://www.liveoakacupuncture.com/parrots-essential-oils Avoiding hot oils with birds is a good idea. But, once again. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it when people are cautious with their pets (just like they should be), but, we “Oily people” get cross- examined on Essential Oils and pets but, nobody thinks to question the harmful household cleaning chemicals, chemical based air fresheners, perfumes, fragrances, lotions and potions that are being used around animals daily and which is proven to actually be extremely harmful to them, their family and their pets. In general, each individual animal has preferences and dislikes, and sensitivities, just like different people do… ALWAYS: Observe your pets behaviour when using essential oils around – if it is behaving normally, all is well – if it is behaving abnormally, then the animal may be sensitive to the essential oi. Animals tell us when they are not happy and especially birds. |
